Coworking provider The Shop announced the opening of its new flex office space, SOMA, in Downtown New Orleans, at 798 South Rampart Street.
The opening of SOMA, hosted in partnership with the Downtown Development District, was accompanied by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a networking reception that brought together local business leaders, CRE professionals, entrepreneurs, and members of the Downtown community.
The new spot, situated on the ground floor of The Standard, is the operator’s second office in New Orleans and fourth location nationwide. It provides private offices, dedicated desks, commons memberships, conference rooms, and phone booths. Members also have access to The Shop’s original location at the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), as well as its Brooklyn and Salt Lake City locations.
The expansion follows sustained demand at The Shop’s CAC location, which has operated at full capacity since opening in 2017.
Although both The Shop SOMA and CAC are in Downtown New Orleans, the two offer different experiences. While CAC is known as a hub for collaboration, programming, and community, SOMA offers a more private, hospitality-driven setting designed for focused work.
“We are excited to open The Shop’s new SOMA location and expand our services to more New Orleans professionals,” said Hugh Breckenridge, community manager at The Shop. “The Shop’s dynamic community has taken off at the CAC location, and now is the perfect time to grow into a new space in the heart of the South Market neighborhood.”
