Flexible workspace provider Industrious will introduce a new workspace concept inside the historic 190 Bowery building in the Nolita neighborhood in Manhattan, N.Y.

The company will operate roughly 35,000 square feet in the property, including four floors of private office suites. Anchoring the space is The Parlor, an 11,500-square-foot open workspace on the second floor. Designed as a collaboration hub and a “live lab”, Industrious will test new workspace formats and programming here.

Built in 1898 as the Germania Bank, the six-story Beaux-Arts building later became known as the home and studio of photographer Jay Maisel, who lived and worked there for nearly five decades. The property was sold in 2015 and later repositioned by developer RFR for modern office and retail use.

“This building is iconic, and it’s a meaningful and rare opportunity to give it new life,” said Anna Squires Levine, president at Industrious.

Levine noted that the property reflects several layers of New York’s history from its early days as a neighborhood bank to its decades as a well-known artist studio. Today, the ground floor is home to Supreme’s flagship store, which is famous for its line-around-the-block launches.

Industrious’ arrival also brings flexible office space to Nolita — a neighborhood better known for restaurants, retail and galleries than traditional office buildings. Levine added that the location would give members the opportunity to work in one of the city’s most vibrant food, arts and retail districts with strong subway access nearby.
