I’ve been part of the Raleigh Founded community for over 8 years as a CPR instructor. During that time, I’ve always valued the opportunity to use their spaces to host lifesaving training classes and contribute to the local community.
Unfortunately, my membership was terminated effective immediately this week — simply because a few of my students called the Cary location looking for me when they arrived late to class. Prior to this, I had been contacted about paying an additional fee for conference room hours, which I agreed to. I never received a response to that email until today, when I was informed that my membership was being canceled.
The message stated:
“Unfortunately, we had another incident yesterday where students were unable to reach anyone for assistance when they arrived. Given this and the ongoing challenges mentioned previously, we’ve decided that we’re unable to continue supporting your business at any Founded locations moving forward and we ask that you please move your November classes to another facility. Ultimately, our coworking memberships are designed for individuals who are regularly engaged in the space, participate in the community, and use meeting rooms occasionally—not as a substitute for a dedicated training or classroom venue.”
What’s frustrating is that other CPR training organizations use the same spaces without issue — yet I’m the only one whose membership was ended immediately. This feels like a very personal and unfair decision, not one based on policy or performance.
If you’re an entrepreneur considering Raleigh Founded or Cary Founded, please be aware: once someone decides they don’t want you there, you can be removed without notice, even after years of membership and positive community involvement.
