A new coworking space is coming to the South Market district this spring as The Shop Workspace expands its footprint in downtown New Orleans.

The company’s second local site, The Shop SOMA, will occupy 6,500 square feet on the ground floor of The Standard condominium building at 798 S. Rampart St. The space will include 11 private offices, 12 dedicated desks, 50 commons memberships, two conference rooms, phone booths and an event space.

The expansion follows sustained demand at The Shop’s original New Orleans location at the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), which opened in 2017. That site has more than 500 members and has operated at full office capacity throughout the last year, according to the company.

Members at the South Market location will also have access to The Shop’s CAC site, as well as its coworking spaces in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Salt Lake City. Through the League of Extraordinary Coworking Spaces network, members can access additional coworking spaces worldwide.

The new coworking space adds to the mixed-use South Market development, which includes residential, retail, restaurant and fitness tenants.
