The Commons is set to open a new coworking space at 121 Castlereagh St. in Sydney in September. This marks the operator’s sixth workspace in Sydney and increases the company’s footprint by 3,600 square meters.

Spanning the 11th and 12th floors, the new coworking space will offer direct access to premium retail, dining, and transit options, along with views of Sydney Harbour and Hyde Park. The workplace’s layout includes private offices and open-plan spaces, as well as quiet zones, communal areas and a retro-inspired bowling alley for socializing.

Since day one, our approach has been member-first, and we believe a quality office space can inspire and encourage creativity and community,” said Cliff Ho, co-founder and CEO of The Commons. “Our continued growth across Sydney speaks to the strength of this model and the evolving demand for workspaces that prioritise flexibility, amenity and connection.

Melbourne-based architecture and design studio DesignOffice planned the interior, preserving the building’s original brickwork, heritage steel windows, exposed concrete and waffle ceilings. At the operator’s request, it also added a bowling alley.

Introducing a bowling alley is one of those ideas that’s always felt distinctly ‘Commons’ — playful, social and a little unexpected,” Ho said. “We’re thrilled to see it come to life at The Commons Castlereagh Street and we’re confident it will become a much-loved feature among our members.

Formerly known as David Jones Men’s Store, 121 Castlereagh St. is a six-story, luxury, mixed-use development in Sydney’s fashion district. It offers 11,500 square metres of premium-grade office space; a 6,200-square-metre extension of Westfield Sydney’s luxury retail offering; a central atrium; and 98 apartments.

The announcement of The Commons’ new space follows recent news of its future health clubs located in Richmond and South Yarra — two inner-city suburbs in Melbourne. All of these new locations are bringing the company’s footprint to 19 sites across Sydney and Melbourne.
