ITS TIME TO CREATE AT SPACES MAKERS QUARTER IN SAN DIEGO.

East Village, San Diego, has become a nexus of redevelopment in SoCal, with the new-build Makers Quarter at its heart. The buildings across this mixed-use campus are home to commercial and residential setups with a huge choice of restaurants, bars, bakeries, cafes, breweries, shops, galleries and boutiques surrounding a central core of modern and inspiring glass and steel buildings. Spaces Makers Quarter typifies the kind of amazing working environment that professionals have flocked to the area to find. Its offices, co-working lounges and conference rooms provide a flexible solution for businesses and entrepreneurs.

Across four floors of one of the most desirable buildings in the area, this work-hub gives a creative space to the companies it houses. They benefit from the contemporary furnishings, super-fast Wi-Fi connection and the helpful and attentive staff. This is a place for networking and collaborating, and the centre regularly hosts events and get-togethers for professionals. Supporting the location are the fantastic surroundings. As well as the shops and eateries, you’re also only a short distance from gyms, parks and events venues, making this a versatile destination. Avoid at all costs. Just Google "Regus office lawsuit " if you want to get a sense of some of their illegal and unethical practices. They get sued all the time and lose (or settle) every suit against them, but the question is, do you have the time and resources to take them to court, or would you rather just get an office somewhere else? I'll admit, I was drawn to their beautiful building, but now seriously regret it. They nickel and dime you for literally everything, while most co-working firms at least provide some basics included in your rent. Spaces provides nothing. They were months late on returning my security deposit, lied multiple times about the terms of the lease, repeatedly charged me "late fees" when I was set up on auto pay on a credit card and never missed a single payment. They said my office had climate control, but then after signing the lease, they locked it and said only management can control it because it’s for the whole floor. Also, good luck getting any accountability whatsoever. After you sign the lease, you will only ever be able to speak with the person at the front desk, who, shocker, has no authority to do anything. They also retain the right to unilaterally change your workspace, and you have no recourse. They moved me from a beautiful west-facing fourth-floor office with a great view of the sunset to a second-floor office where the windows don’t open and facing F street (super busy/loud, no more sunset, way less natural light, etc.) and said it was “reasonably equivalent." I was also told by the person at the front desk that several issues would be addressed (like the move, terminating my contract, getting security deposit on time, etc.) where he gave me confirmation even in email explicitly stating I would be refunded, and then when it went to his manager who actually makes decisions, it was denied by the higher-ups, who he won’t even give me an email to talk to them directly. It took them three months, three months of charging me, before they finally got back to me to tell me the "operations director" said there wasn't a "justifiable business case" for the termination, aka, they did their cost-benefit analysis and don't think I would take them to court, so just decided to rip me off for a couple thousand dollars. So basically stay away, and if you're one of their victims, interested in pursuing a class action, let me know!

I recently moved to Spaces and started renting a shared office, and wow, what a positive change! The atmosphere is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I really appreciate that everyone respects the rules, which makes the environment so much more enjoyable. The space itself is brand new, which is a great perk. The service here is top-notch, and the team at the front desk goes above and beyond to assist with anything I need. It’s been a fantastic experience so far, and I highly recommend Spaces to anyone looking for a professional and supportive office environment.

Tori the sales manager is an absolute pleasure to work with, and a gem of a human being.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Spaces Makers Quarter is open during regular business hours listed above. For any other requirements, make sure to contact the operator directly.

  • Most, if not all, amenities are available to you as a member, regardless of the type of membership. Some shared spaces, like the meeting rooms, need to be booked in advance and private offices are only available for those with a subscription. However, all the other areas, like the lounge, kitchen and breakout spaces, are usable by every member. All complimentary services are available and anything ancillary can be purchased or negotiated with Spaces.

  • The open desk is the way to go if you’re looking for a flexible workspace in an open environment where you can socialize with other members. Or, choose a dedicated desk if you want a designated space that also allows you to keep in touch with the community.

A private office works wonders if you or your team need a quiet, secluded space to conduct your work and interact with people in your organization.

It’s important to understand the different types of coworking arrangements available to you, depending on the type of work that you do and its duration, and whether you’re a solo worker or part of a team.

  • Absolutely. Flexibility is one of the best parts of coworking. Most coworking memberships are month-to-month, so you can quickly adjust your space preferences according to your unique requirements and the size of your team. Whether that means upgrading the space or downsizing it or even completely changing the type of coworking subscription that you use, you always have the option to adjust as you go.

It may be possible to adjust your membership before current membership ends, but you will have to discuss and negotiate directly with Spaces, who is more than happy to help out.

  • Yes, you can certainly take a tour of the space before signing up for a membership. In fact, it’s encouraged, to help you get a feel for what your workday will look like. Schedule a tour here by filling out the form along with the date and time when you would like to visit the space and we’ll see you there.
