Labour Temple

I was a member at Labour Temple for several months, and while the building is aesthetically pleasing and has a cool look and vibe, I ultimately found it disappointing as a co-working space and left some time ago. I’m posting this anonymously because I don’t want to be contacted about my review, but I do think this experience is worth sharing for others considering a membership. My biggest issue is that co-working feels secondary to the building’s function as an event venue. Many of the areas available to members are also event rental spaces, and those spaces can become unavailable during normal business hours when an event is booked. If you are paying for a co-working membership and expecting reliable access to the spaces you normally work from, that can be frustrating. Most of the actual co-working area is on the basement level, which they refer to as the “courtyard level,” and there is always music playing on that floor. There are no dedicated quiet areas if you need one, outside of the phone booths—but more on those in a second. There are several open rooms with tables, but the setup is fairly basic. If you need privacy for calls or video meetings, the phone booths are upstairs on the first floor. Unfortunately, I found them very poorly designed for that purpose. They are extremely small, have very little room for a laptop, are not soundproof, and have terrible lighting. There is a small ring light provided, but in such a cramped, dark space, I found that it made the lighting even less flattering. There is also a curtain you can pull, but it does nothing to address sound carrying in or out. The shared work environment was also not particularly inviting during my time there. There was one member who regularly became confrontational when other people took even very short, quiet calls in the room he was working in. In practice, it felt as though he had claimed an entire shared room for himself because other members simply did not want to deal with the situation. I personally watched multiple people enter that room, notice he was there, and immediately turn around and leave. That significantly undermined the idea of it being a comfortable shared co-working environment. The staff were professional in my interactions with them, but I would not describe the atmosphere as especially warm, friendly, or community-oriented. I generally felt more like a customer using space in the building than a member of a co-working community. That was really the overall impression I was left with: Labour Temple seems much more focused on private offices, businesses leasing space in the building, and event rentals, with co-working operating alongside those uses rather than being the primary focus. There were also very few people around much of the time. On many days, there might be only two or three people on the entire co-working floor. If you are specifically looking for a co-working space because you want some energy, interaction, or simply other people working around you, I would not count on finding that here. The amenities are also very limited compared with many other co-working spaces. There was no refrigerator available for members and no complimentary coffee or tea. Bringing lunch was not really a practical option, so I often had to leave the building to eat. For events, I can absolutely see the appeal of Labour Temple. The building has character, photographs well, and has a distinctive aesthetic that would make it an attractive venue. For actual day-to-day co-working, however, I think there are better options in Seattle. If your priority is dependable workspace, good call booths, useful amenities, quiet areas when needed, and an active co-working community, I would look elsewhere.

What a gem for Seattle. I had pleasure of booking their podcasting studio (lovely space!) and have opted in for several of their open source drop in work days as well as a paid month of membership. Every space is curated and thoughtfully decorated to be both comfortable and functional, the coffee shop on site is wonderful and ALL of the staff is incredible. We're actually in the process of booking a public event to host in their space next year. I love Labour Temple!

We've had an office location at the Labour Temple since 2022-2023, and we absolutely love it. In fact, I will be signing another lease for a second office space here soon! The overall asthetic and layout is fantastic. Aside from the luxe art deco design, the building is well-maintained, professional, and very welcoming. The amenities are excellent (personal gym, showers, suana, lockers, bike storage, podcast studio, and the best snacks) and make it easy for our team to work efficiently and comfortably. What truly sets the Labour Temple apart, however, is the sense of community and culture. The building is filled with creatives, entreprenuers, and socially conscious organizations who truley care about their work and support one another, creating an atmosphere that is both collaborative and inspiring. Everyone on staff is amaziing. From maintenance to management to the owners, and everyone in between, the Labour Temple staff is responsive, helpful, and genuinely invested in making the building a great place to work or host an event. And the coffee shop, Bon Homie? Quite possible the best cup pf coffee in all of Seattle. We couldn't be happier with our decision to locate our office here and we plan to stay here for years to come. I would highly recommend the Labour Temple to anyone looking for a unique professional office setting or co-working space with a strong sense of community. Highly recommended!
