Good: - Coffee is decent - Tea is also an option - Freebies like stickers and matchbooks - Plenty of spaces to work Cons: - Parking is ABYSMAL - Internet upload speeds are ATROCIOUSLY slow if you are sending work to clients via WeTransfer or Dropbox or other similar softwares and even uploading attachments to emails. - Some of the chairs are uncomfortable to sit in for a while Overall a 3/5 because it is not a bad place to be, but the parking and internet can definitely be a make or break. 7 parking spots upfront, and some parking in the back but it is shared parking with another store nextdoor. I had to park a block away in the neighborhood on a rainy day. Not sure how long I will keep membership.

So glad I got a membership here. Montrose is also one of my fave neighborhoods in Houston so it’s great to have an excuse to come over here more often! It’s never too crowded and you’re able to reserve the phone booths same day (I have a ton of calls for work so this is important!). Switchyards honestly feels like home away from home. Yes, the music is loud and could be turned down a bit so I usually bring my noise cancelling headphones. I have seen groups here but they are respectful and it’s a shared space. Other than the launch day, I’ve always been able to get a Member parking spot, and if you can’t, street parking is ample and a short 2-3 min walk max. Would recommend!

The music is your basic coffee shop background jazz and easy listening, so not sure what people are complaining about. The sound level isn’t loud. Idk if they changed it recently, but this is coming from someone with pretty severe noise sensitivity who gets headaches and is easily distracted. Also no one has been obnoxiously loud as other reviews mentioned. I haaaaaaate when people take calls on speaker phone or listen to music/videos without headphones or have super loud conversations. But switchyards have signs around saying not to do these things. People seem pretty aware that it’s a work environment and therefore more conscientious/courteous about noise level (thank GOD!!). Saving money on coffee shops now, with unlimited coffee, free WiFi, and 🥁 outlets!!! I don’t drive due to seizures but there have been parking spots both times I came and no issues with my medical alert dog (pls don’t bring a pet it ruins it for the rest of us 🙏). Walk two miles happily to get here it’s worth it. The people who work here are easy to spot. They wear aprons. I lost my phone the first time I came and it was easy to report/check the lost and found. (No one stole it btw, found it later my memory just isnt great). THANK YOU for providing free feminine products in the restrooms ❤️

Great concept. Love the different environments offered (open spaces, private room, private booths, quiet room) and the decorations. I love the unlimited coffee & tea, and interesting books to read around the space. Most people seem friendly and considerate here. I have some specific issues though, not to the fault of the owners of this space, but the people who are members/visiting. Some people talk entirely too loud, I’m guessing because they’re using noise cancelling headphones. I’ve unfortunately found a perfect spot then had to hear every word of 2 or 3 people’s calls at once because they’re talking so loudly in open spaces. I’m updating this review since there’s been so many seemingly college students coming in and being super loud and annoying. So I hope they address that soon. Another issue I have is with the bathrooms. They’re gender neutral which is fine but there’s been so many times I go to use it and the seat is left up, sometimes is wet too. This wouldn’t be a problem if people/men put the seat back down, but they often don’t and it’s gross. This is also Montrose, so parking options are very limited. It’s not the end of the world though, just a bit of a walk sometimes to your car.

This is one of my favorite places in town. I don’t say that frivolously, either. I work two jobs which basically means that I’m working 24/7, and a good WFH spot is indispensable. Naturally, I’ve been to every co-working space, every cafe, tried pretty much everything Houston has to offer for WFH - Switchyards is the best, without question. It’s open 24/7, the WiFi is perfect, and the price of a subscription is competitive with the other co-working spaces in town. That would have been enough for me, but the people that designed this space have given it so much personality and warmth. This is not just a sterile office-away-from-the-office; it’s a very carefully curated third place where every room in has its own vibe. There’s an area that feels like a study hall, one that feels like a cafe, other areas that have a dim office closet vibe, and there are little break spots with couches where you can get away from the screens. No matter where you are, though, every nook and cranny is full of personality - there are fun pictures, objects, and knick knacks everywhere that make the place feel so lived-in. Even the coffee machines have fun little videos that make the wait just a little more fun! As far as functionality goes - Switchyards has it down pat. There are always outlets nearby. There are always notecards and pencils close at hand. The lighting is tasteful - not too bright, not too dim, there are no LED bulbs shining in your face. The playlist is well-considered and contemporary, but isn’t cliche jazz or classical music. If you need spaces to get on a call, they have booths, too. I really cannot praise this place highly enough. When you purchase a subscription with Switchyards, you’re not just getting a workspace. It’s a space which is curated; the people who designed SY actually cared about the experience of a person who would need to work long hours there. For Millennials and Gen Z, the biggest complaint we have with the aesthetic philosophy guiding businesses which cater to customer experience in physical spaces such as cafes, stores, and restaurants is that it feels so sterile and soulless. SY is amazing in that it really does fit the bill for a “Third Place.” It’s a pleasure coming into SY every time. Switchyards is a welcome addition to this city. It’s cool, it’s practical, and it resonates with what our generation really wants to see from the businesses of the future. You cannot go wrong with paying for this space.
Open desks may be the ideal choice if you thrive in a collaborative environment and value the opportunity to connect with fellow coworkers. Dedicated desks, on the other hand, provide a designated space with shared community amenities, catering to those who seek a balance between privacy and interaction.
For ultimate focus and private interactions, private offices are best for solo individuals and teams that seek uninterrupted productivity.
Selecting the most suitable workspace for you typically hinges on your work style and preferences, but it can also be determined by the type of work that you do, its duration, and whether you work alone or in a team.
