I recently hosted my daughter’s first birthday party at Venture X on Saturday, November 15th. The space itself is beautiful — modern, open, and it fit perfectly with our aviation airline theme. When we first toured the space, we loved it immediately and locked it in. Prior to the event, the manager, Ivory, assured me that although Venture X is a co-working space and members cannot be denied access to their offices, members would be notified that a private event was taking place in the common area and would be asked to enter through the back doors.
Unfortunately, that was not my experience on the day of the event. We paid for the venue from 2:30–10:30 p.m., yet during setup and throughout the event, multiple members repeatedly walked into the lobby area, heated up food, socialized, and attempted to walk through the party. Every member we encountered said they had no idea a private event was happening. We politely redirected them to the back entrance, but it was uncomfortable and honestly distasteful to have people walking through while we were celebrating, especially during moments like singing Happy Birthday.
The next day, I received an email from Ivory stating that there were minor damages and that we would be charged $30. I had no issue with the charge and paid immediately. However, when I voiced my concerns about the lack of communication to members and the disruptions to our event, Ivory’s first response was to tell me that members complained that we denied them access. Instead of acknowledging our experience or apologizing for the inconvenience, her immediate focus was the members’ complaints—not the fact that our “private” event was repeatedly interrupted and that the expectations she set were not met.
While the venue itself is lovely and worked well aesthetically for our event, the customer service and handling of the situation left a lot to be desired. For that reason, despite the beautiful space, we would not book here again.
