Like many people who reside Downeast, I have enjoyed living in an off-grid cabin. The lifestyle offers a lot, but a lack of access to wi-fi had always been one of the biggest challenges. It kept me from growing my business -- until Maine Street Business was created. It is the exact service that I have needed to grow professionally and live locally. I have been impressed by the co-working culture that is fostered in the Maine Street Business Building. I look forward to seeing it grow and help more people like me. My website is back thanks to the skill and creativity of Geoffrey Lagat at The Main Street Business Building in Machias Maine. The outdated Wordpress website along with its shopping cart had crashed and I had been unable to fix it myself. Being a sole proprietor without a tech on staff ( no staff! ) I consulted with Geoffrey. He not only got it back up but re-created it from pieces of the old one. It was way beyond my expectation. During my visits I learned about the many services offered at the Main Street Business Building. What a great institution! I am taking the 'Entrepreneurial Pathways' program through these folks collaborating with Maine Community College System, and wow, what a valuable course for a new business owner just starting out! They offer course credit AND it's different topics by a wide variety of knowledgeable guest lecturers and specialists each week! I went into the class knowing I needed help with the more 'business oriented' side of my ceramics venture. The class offered a great structure with concrete goals to work on, so I can create a viable business plan step by step and have confidence in the outcomes. I know a lot more about everything from COGS and how to calculate it, to what my target market looks like and how that helps me position my brand. It's also really easy to get in touch with professionals for further one to one advising through MSBB - I got to work with their business advisor for no cost and get tailored support for creating first year projections, knowing my breakeven point, and prioritizing goals! And the networking opportunities are fantastic! It's a great place full of very knowledgeable professionals who are ready and willing to help Maine's small business owners get a leg up!
