I’ve been a member at this co working space in Brookline for over a couple of years now, and it continues to be a place I genuinely enjoy working from. It’s one of those spaces that gets the fundamentals right and then goes quite a bit further.
The building itself has a modern industrial feel: exposed brick, steel beams, open ceilings, and warm wooden floors. Big windows flood the space with natural light, and there are thoughtful mid-century touches and plenty of plants throughout. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel more creative just walking in.
The layout works brilliantly. There’s a quiet room on the ground level, a more social/lively space on the mid level, and private offices upstairs throughout. You’ll also find well-designed meeting rooms and booths for calls when you need privacy. In summer take to the roof deck, one of the few in Brookline Village for some fresh air and sun on your back. Even the practical details are well handled, with restrooms across multiple floors and a clean, well-maintained environment throughout.
The café is very much the heart of the space, well stocked with snacks and drinks. As a Brit, I have to give a special mention to the tea selection (including Yorkshire Tea, which is a small but meaningful touch).
From a productivity standpoint, it has everything you need : reliable Wi-Fi, extra monitors to plug into, and a setup that makes it easy to settle in and focus.
It also feels consistently safe and secure, thanks to a subtle vetting process, controlled access for members, and a vigilant management team who keep a quiet but watchful eye on things.
That said, the real strength of The Village Works is the community. It’s genuinely second to none. That comes down to owners who are present and care deeply about the space, supported by a management team who are always helpful, approachable, and clearly on top of things.
For me it has been something of a lifeline, and I can recommend this for anyone new to Boston as an easy way to get out of the house and spend time among productive, like-minded people.
I’ve also spent time at the other The Village Works location in Jamaica Plain, and the same thoughtful approach carries through there as well.
It’s a clean, welcoming, and genuinely enjoyable place to work. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
