I wanted to update my review after spending more time around Nur House. My first impression honestly wasn’t the best, and I still think there are areas that could improve, especially when it comes to making all Muslims feel equally welcome and comfortable in the space. At first, it felt a bit exclusive and more social than collaborative to me. That being said, I’ve noticed improvements over time and can see more of the vision now. There are genuinely good people here doing impactful work, and I’ve had better experiences since my original review. The environment feels more intentional than I initially gave it credit for, and I do think the team is trying to build something meaningful. I still think there’s room to grow, especially around inclusivity and creating space for different work styles, but overall my experience has improved enough for me to update my rating to 4 stars.

Nur House has been a great place to network and meet like-minded founders! One of my favorite parts of the place is the fact that there is a musala in the space brining a sense of community and faith to every aspect of our work.

I had high hopes for Nur House because all of the great things i’ve seen online, but my experience was different. The space felt a bit exclusive, elitist, and left a bad taste in my mouth from a Muslim identifying organization. It seems more like a social club than a professional workspace. Don’t get me wrong, some people have great start ups like ASL Aspire, which helps deaf kids, but most already have established teams, systems, and processes, which points to time pass. There is little to no privacy given the co-ed environment. I was hoping for a place focused on serious work and collaboration, but it didn’t meet those expectations for me. I think they have potential, but there’s a lot of room for improvement in making all Muslims feel welcome.

Nur House has become an incredible space that fosters talent and inspires me and many others to think bigger and learn how to build great things with intention. I didn’t really have a community in the city until we started Nur House and through this I’ve met so many likeminded Muslim girls and networked with many others. It brought me job referrals, friendships, collaborations, conversations, and encouragement to pursue passion and stay close to our faith. What’s exciting about this place is that it’s what you want to make of it. If you want to just co-work, that’s readily available, if you want to network, you can come to events, if you want to build and lean on mentors and other founders, we have that too. It’s a new space so while it’s taking its time to become great, it’s already filling a gap in the city we’ve needed as Muslims and always figuring out how to get better. I love Nur House!!!
