I debated writing this because I wasn’t the bride — I was the best friend standing beside her through every phone call, every planning meeting, every site visit, and eventually every tear. Watching what happened with Expansive Midtown was honestly heartbreaking. For months, my friend tried to navigate inconsistent communication, unanswered questions, changing information, and ongoing confusion surrounding her wedding planning experience. Despite the frustrations, she stayed patient and continued moving forward because she trusted that at the end of the process, she would still get the wedding venue she contracted and planned for. Instead, less than 30 days before her wedding, she was informed the Penthouse she booked would no longer be available. If you’ve never planned a wedding, that timeline may not mean much. But for anyone who has — or anyone who has supported a bride — you know that at that stage nearly every detail is tied to the venue: guest accommodations, transportation, printed materials, rentals, layout, timelines, vendors, planning visits, and months of emotional investment. What followed wasn’t inconvenience. It was thousands of dollars in unexpected costs, complete replanning under pressure, and the emotional weight of trying to preserve what should have been one of the happiest seasons of her life. What made the experience even more difficult to process was the timing of everything that followed. From the outside, it began to feel like there may have been uncertainty surrounding the future availability of the space long before my friend was informed. As communication became more inconsistent and harder to get, it was especially upsetting to later see public marketing that appeared to show the same space being promoted as “leased” despite prior assurances that it was available for contracted events. I obviously cannot speak to internal decisions or timelines, but as someone who watched this unfold closely, it left the impression that changes may have been happening behind the scenes while my friend continued planning in good faith. Whether that was the case or not, the lack of transparency made an already painful situation feel even more avoidable. At minimum, clients deserve timely communication and honest expectations when making decisions around events that cannot simply be moved or recreated. It was extremely hard to watch how little urgency or ownership seemed to exist until there was no choice but to respond. After months of trust, flexibility, and patience from my friend, the outcome felt treated like a scheduling issue instead of the reality that someone’s wedding — something planned for months and emotionally invested in for even longer — had just been turned upside down. To the credit of the person who stepped in later, communication was professional and efforts were made to manage an already difficult situation. But handling the aftermath well does not undo the decisions and circumstances that created the problem in the first place. The most disappointing part was the lack of accountability and the position my friend was placed in after trusting this company with one of the most important days of her life. If you are considering this venue for a major life event, my recommendation is simple: do not book here. No amount of planning, documentation, or trust should be required to protect yourself from this kind of experience. No bride should have to spend the final month before her wedding scrambling to recreate a day she already built.

I’m honestly extremely disappointed with this company. We had everything set, and they canceled on us at the very last minute with little to no notice. That alone caused everything to go downhill from there. When you’re relying on a business to follow through, especially after confirming plans, this kind of behavior is unacceptable. It really should be against the rules to leave customers hanging like that. What’s even more frustrating is seeing all these great reviews, because our experience was nothing like what they portray. It’s misleading and honestly makes you question how consistent their service really is. I wouldn’t recommend them based on how unprofessional and unreliable this situation was.

I don’t typically leave negative reviews, but after my experience with Expansive Midtown, I feel it’s important to share this for any future couples or clients considering this venue. We booked the Penthouse space for our wedding and signed a formal Event Venue Agreement. Less than 30 days before our wedding date, we were informed that the Penthouse would no longer be available—completely disrupting months of planning. Throughout the process, there were ongoing communication issues and inconsistencies. We initially worked with the Sales Manager, Mishaela Padilla (who later went on maternity leave), and our coordination was transitioned to another representative. Unfortunately, the transition only added to the confusion, miscommunication, and lack of accountability. Leading up to the cancellation, there were already red flags—conflicting information about access to the space, last-minute changes, and unclear expectations. However, nothing prepared us for the sudden cancellation of our contracted venue just weeks before our wedding. As a result, we were forced to: • Secure a new venue on extremely short notice (significantly higher cost) • Arrange last-minute transportation for guests • Reconfigure rentals, layouts, and design plans • Absorb additional expenses tied to the change • Navigate unnecessary stress during what should have been an exciting time The financial and emotional impact of this situation was significant. While alternatives were briefly mentioned, none were comparable to what we originally booked and planned our entire wedding around. A venue is one of the most critical parts of any event, and reliability is non-negotiable. Unfortunately, our experience with Expansive Midtown fell far short of expectations. I strongly encourage anyone considering this venue to proceed with caution and ensure that all details, contingencies, and guarantees are clearly outlined and protected.
