Hostel isn’t bad. However, the photos showed Room #2, but we were placed in #1. For some people that might not matter, but as a photographer and designer, details are very important to me. My room didn’t have the Viennese chair, the vintage lamp, and the bed wasn’t placed by the shōji screens. I specifically chose this place because of those details — I even rescheduled my trip just to stay here. But in the end, it wasn’t worth it. The only interesting feature in my room was a wooden beam instead of a column, and that’s it. I really dislike when accommodations don’t match the photos. There were also small spiders in the room, and I’m afraid of them. The location itself is nice, but it’s quite far from the center and all the popular spots. On the last night, a group of Japanese guests checked in and were very noisy until late at night and again from 7 a.m. Before that, only Europeans were staying here, and it was completely quiet and peaceful. Common areas are cozy and have a nice atmosphere. There was never a line for the toilets or showers. The girl at the reception was very kind and friendly, and we were allowed to check in early — which I really appreciated.

It's less than a 20-minute walk from Kyoto Station. It's in a quiet area along the river. The building is quaint and has a kitchen available for rent. While it's not suitable for families, it's perfect for solo travelers, couples, and those on a workcation. They happened to be holding an event in the morning where they served free coffee. It was delicious.

My 4-n stay (¥11,800) at UNKNOWN's dormitory was fantastic. The ambience of the repurposed old house was really nice. The futon was comfortable and the privacy curtains made it easy to sleep well. Toilets and showers were always clean and the staff were amazing. I also got some work done in the coworking space which had fast wifi and a good environment. The phone booth was useful for taking calls too.

Staff is considerate and alert. This place is so cozy. There's a set time for restaurant service. The bridge is nearby to go to the Gion sector if you need a late snack while checking in with the night crowd.
