I attended a Christmas party event last night and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. I arrived at approx 1920 having never been to the village before I was looking forward to a great Christmas party. When I walked through the door I was left guessing as to where the party was taking place. There was a member of staff inside but they were not interested in welcoming people in or guiding them towards the party. I was with a friend who knew where they were going. I walked into the bar area next to the function room and wanted to order a bottle of prosecco using the village app but was told that they had already sold out of prosecco at 1930hrs. Clearly there is a stock management issue here as you shouldn't be running out of prosecco so early on in the evening. The Christmas decorations on the table were beyond poor a small white tree with a bauble on....no Christmas crackers no wine on the table. All of this is pretty standard at a party event. The food was not good then winter soup was bland, the turkey was dryer than the sahara dessert with some sad looking roast potatoes and quite possibly the smallest pig in blanket I have ever seen along with a really poor portion of stuffing this main course was absolutely not appealing or tasty. Moving onto the pudding which was downright awful and I'm not even sure what it was supposed to be...was it a chocolate tarte was it a mousse was it a cheesecake absolutely no idea and the added flavour of Clementine made it absolutely disgusting I had one bite and in fact almost no one on my table ate it. The best thing on the table was the QR code which allowed me to order drinks to my table avoiding the obvious queues at the bar the service was also swift. I used this service to order a rum and coke later on that evening at approximately 2100 only to be told there was no rum as it had all gone.....so yet again absolutely poor stock management by the bar management team. All in all it was pretty rubbish event and I left early very disappointed. Needless to say I would be very very hesitant to attend another event at the Village given how bad it was.

The hotel is in serious need of a refurb. The rooms and general areas feel worn, and the gym in particular is very dated. Many of the weight machines are old, uncomfortable to use, and clearly overdue for replacement. The pool area was also disappointing — it didn’t feel clean, and the overall upkeep wasn’t at the standard I expected. It’s a shame because the Village Hotel brand usually offers a great experience, but this location feels like it’s been left behind. With some investment and better maintenance, it could be a fantastic stay again, but right now it falls short of expectations.

We checked in late as we were visiting family. I know it is Christmas season but.. The checkin experience involved no staff. Not even a hello. Our bathroom was dirty. Other people's hair around sink, shower and toilet. The toilet had someone else's urine under the seat and splashes on tbe floor. We didn't raise it with staff, as it was late, we were tired, and not sure what anyone would've done. Other guests were shouting between rooms in the corridor at 1am. Not helped by a huge gap under the room door. Pillows, bed, breakfast, cleanliness of restaurant, all also just not pleasant. The whole thing felt more like a Pontins experience. I certainly will not be staying again.
