The café was a disappointment from the moment we arrived. The waitress rather irritably asked whether we had booked. We said no and asked if they were fully booked; she said they weren’t, then pointed us to a table. I’ve no idea what the point of the question was. The seats were grubby and stained, and the single menu on the table (despite there being three of us) was also grubby and tatty. Several items listed were no longer available although this was not stated on the menu. After choosing something, we had to start again because it wasn’t actually sold anymore, and the waitress told us this as though we should somehow have known. Updating the menu doesn’t seem to be a priority for the management. I eventually asked for “the scone”, only to be asked which one—despite the menu offering no choices. I requested a plain scone, but a few minutes later the waitress returned to say they only had one scone left in the entire café, and it was a fruit one I didn’t want. At that point I gave up and just ordered a coffee. My wife and son had paninis, which were bland and served with a very poor-quality salad. My son couldn’t eat it, so I tried some myself, but it was unpleasant and I couldn’t eat it either. To top it all off, we were then charged for the scone I never received. Fortunately we noticed this soon after and went back to get it refunded. Overall, the place feels unmanaged or very poorly managed. This was our second visit—we wanted to give it another chance—but it has actually deteriorated further. I don’t expect there will be a third visit. If there is any management, they don’t appear to be paying attention.

Can’t fault the service or food for the Cafe and hang out that it is. The place is designed for dog walkers, read a book quietly typed and business meetings and an evening entertainment venue. I’ve always enjoyed coming here and find it very reasonably priced. The reason for the 3* rating is they have not spent a penny on it since it opened and it’s a busy place. The outdoor rattan furniture is terribly uncomfortable, the indoor furniture is grotty, old with flat padding, very dirty and stained and has stickers on it where you sit (not sure if they’re covering tears but I don’t want sticker glue on my pants!). There’s also very little place for a table or 1 or 2 to sit and work with access to plug sockets in the couch area without taking up a table of 4 or 6, and as a considerate person it put me off sitting there. There are mobile side tables that have plug sockets in but they’re not powered and are no where near a plug sockets to power them.

Lovely cafe set in lovely grounds. Staff were attentive, coffee was hot but best of all was the brown bread was proper brown not just a brown version of white, you could see the actual grains in it, so many places do not offer this.
