Today, while on a trip home to Fermanagh, I visited Enniskillen Workhouse for the first time since its restoration. Having passed through the Workhouse many times over the years, when the Erne Hospital still stood there, I always wished something more would become of the building. I was delighted to hear that Catherine Scott (who was also our guide today) had taken the initiative to list the building and preserve this beautiful heritage site, and I was very keen to pay a visit. The building is absolutely stunning, and so much care has gone into curating the site and preserving what was left behind. I can honestly say that I have never visited a museum or heritage site where there has been such respect and care shown towards those at the heart of its story — the 10,000 people who passed through the Workhouse doors. I cannot recommend visiting enough. And if you can grab a spot on a tour with Catherine, I highly suggest that you do so. She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, and approaches such an emotional subject with immense empathy. A really special place, and one I’m so glad has been preserved.

Nicely restored entrance to The Workhouse! Small exhibit but to enhance the experience the guided tour would be recommended! Next time we visit will arrange the tour! Like that the building is also being used as a workhub for small business etc.
Used the hot desk facilities. Friendly staff, good comms over email and the set up was perfect for my needs.
