Bitterly disappointed with the Opera House, a venue I once enjoyed. After door security confiscated a perfectly legal and legitimate ID from a queer member of our group, singling them out from the other 30 of us (all of whom are between the ages of 20 and 70) we were met with verbal abuse, condescension and misogyny along with the already apparent homophobia. When challenged, the security staff failed to have a consistent argument for their multiple violations and to make matters worse, the obese bald male who confiscated the ID hid his SIA license and failed to display it when asked, which was captured on video. They were also reluctant to even say who they worked for to avoid any form of accountability. When the Opera house finally got involved the bald obese male in question slumped away and left his colleague to clean up his own mess. We were all known by the staff at Opera House who we had seen routinely for months on end, always being allowed in previously with no issues at all. There were no new faces among our group for the whole night. Unfortunately Opera house must change their policy on security hiring, as they apparently have no control over who they get. If security is costing your business 30+ regulars who will spend large amounts of money and do their best to clean up after themselves at the end of the night, maybe it’s time to have a policy change.
