I've had it with English Heritage. The castle is great, been a few times, but here in 2025 having braced paying ever increasing entrance fees, over £20 for two to see empty ruins, I turn up today and they want to add parking to that ... another £4 on top. Maybe they still have a medieval mortgage to pay, maybe we're subsidising some aristocrat's home sonewhere through EH, or funding English Heritage's incredible ability to get planning permission for gift shops on historical sites. Its greed, overpriced and I'm not playing their game anymore. I left.

Very atmospheric! Great to be able to go into a dungeon, climb the top of a tower via narrow winding steps and be able to walk through various rooms and along the walls. Brilliant day out and the coffee and cake is worth a mention too in the visitor centre.

This is now only open on the weekend and is interesting as it has quite a few rooms to visit with stairs going up and down. Excellent views from the keep with very narrow staircase which was exciting! 4 stars because we weren't sure about some of the flooring- big concrete slabs. Lovely little café which was full; pleasant and sociable staff.
