It felt important to take a moment to write this, because great community management often goes unnoticed...and it shouldn't shouldn’t. At its core, a community manager shapes the experience people have day to day, and there is genuinely no one doing it better than Alfie at Beton by Spacemade. Alfie brings a rare combination of professionalism and personality: always approachable, consistently kind, and deeply thoughtful in how he supports everyone in the space. At a time when people have more choice than ever about where and how they work, it’s not just about the facilities — it’s about the feeling. Community is what people are drawn to, and that doesn’t happen by accident. Alfie plays a huge role in creating that environment, ensuring that the office doesn’t just exist, but genuinely thrives. The Good: Great workspace facilities with two floors for co-working plus phone booths for private calls if desired. The kitchens on both floors are helpful to store food and snacks in. The Bad: From my experience as someone who was paying out of their own pocket (as in, no employer reimbursement) to use the workspace I found billing and membership to be an absolute faff. Even if signing up to use the co-working space the website says a 30 day written notice is required, however, they bill by calendar month so essentially you need to provide at least 6 weeks if not longer to cancel (likewise these details aren’t noted on the sign up page or in details when sent, only on the website). Despite informing staff I was going to cancel my membership in the first week of the month, I was told that I didn’t provide a full calendar month and had to pay out until the end of the next month due to their ‘full calendar month notice’. Likewise, when asked on it, the reply from staff was that ‘the powers that be won’t allow it (an earlier cancellation’ so I was left without anyone further to ask on about this. Given that I signed up to this space in comparison to others due to it seeming flexible, it is very much NOT flexible with terms and such. It’s not a month-to-month contract if one needs nearly 2 months to cancel. Likewise, the specifications of needing to cancel with a full calendar month prior to end date could have been communicated much more clearer so customers are aware.
