Service was terrible and place looked like it needed cleaning

Since changing ownership, this place has gone from 5 stars to one star. They have taken away their old favourites, and refuse to make any changes or additions to menu items. In our case, refusing to substitute French toast for brioche only for a child that can’t have egg. Just not what it was and we won’t ever come back after visiting year, after year for almost a decade.

Best scrambled eggs ever and great coffee! :)

Under the new management the quality of food has fallen significantly. My partner and I waited over 30 minutes with only 2 other tables for cold bagels with a pitiful amount of hollandaise. The eggs were embarrassingly small and slightly overcooked. We were told the portions would be large prior to ordering; they weren’t. The new menu looks thoroughly dull and ours felt like caff food upsold by 50%, except a caff would give you proper portions. Feels like management bit off more than they could chew, and when we informed the staff there was no question of taking anything off the bill, or even removing the automatic service charge. Really no point going at the moment. Edit: the response to this review is disappointing, to say the least. Your ticket queue might show this, but my card shows I paid at quarter past, so I’m unsure how we would have left 10 minutes before this. We spent about an hour in total with you according to my location data. I would be interested to see the ticket that you have kept so that any factual discrepancies can be sorted out. In addition, we were not kept updated by your staff at any point until we asked - after at least 20 minutes- when our food would be out. Regardless, we are not the only people to be reporting this situation, and it is a shame you seem to be responding defensively rather than taking on board this feedback. We did indeed finish our food, as we were hungry after our wait and didn’t fancy waiting another half an hour. There was no chance to draw attention to the issues while eating, as no member of staff checked in with us after service. We did not particularly feel like flagging someone down during eating, as we were more concerned with finishing our food and continuing on with our day. While it was technically the food we ordered, and my review does not claim otherwise, that’s the bare minimum - I stand by the quality issues mentioned, and am sad I didn’t take a picture to make my point more clearly. I am sure everyone working there is lovely - everyone we interacted with seemed perfectly nice as people - and this is not a slight on anyone working at Cliff’s. It’s just a shame to see what was once an excellent part of the Margate food scene become what it is now

Nice drinks but everything else not so good. Food took an hour, didn’t tell us they ran out of hollindaise sauce just served without and it was cold!!! Didn’t take it off the bill even though half the food was left on the plate or remove service charge!! Lost loyal customers under new management sadly Edit: Their reply is just not true!!! Maybe the wait felt longer but we were there way longer than 33 minutes you are referring to other customers. We ordered eggs Benedict, eggs royale, a coffee and two drinks. I didn’t eat most of my food and we raised it with the staff prior to paying?! Crazy reply and confirms we won’t be coming back. We were not informed you ran out of hollandaise we overheard you telling another customer and assumed you had enough for our meals as you accepted to order. Cannot believe this response!
